Suspect package causes jet to be diverted to Stansted

A holiday jet was diverted under military escort to Stansted Airport tonight, after a suspect package was discovered onboard.
The plane, with 103 passengers on board, was and travelling from Faro in Portugal. It was shadowed into Stansted by two Tornado F3 jets.
A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman confirmed all those onboard disembarked safely after landing. 'At approximately 19:00, two fighter jets from RAF Coningsby were sent to escort a civilian aircraft to Stansted Airport. It landed at around 19:45, when the passengers disembarked safely,' she said
Stansted has been operating normally throughout. Police have not yet revealed the nature of the suspect package.
