Olympic ‘light and mist column’ may be axed over Liverpool Airport concerns

A three-mile high column of ‘light and mist’ planned to mark the London 2012 Olympics may be scrapped over fears for the safety of pilots, Click Liverpool reports. The CAA has ordered an investigation into the £500,000 instillation at Wirral Waters on Merseyside because it may limit visibility.
The column will be visible for up to 60 miles and is thought to be prominent in the flight path of passenger planes using Liverpool Airport. Planning permission will not be granted until tests are carried out in co-operation with Wirral Borough Council to ensure their are no risks to air travel.
