Ryanair axe Liverpool Airport routes
15.04.12
Ryanair has blamed UK taxes for a decision to axe scores of flights from Liverpool Airport to destinations in Europe, the Post reports. The airline said the increase in Air Passenger Duty (APD) earlier this month was the reason for the cuts, while industry observers also pointed to recent sharp increases in the cost of aviation fuel.
The low-cost carrier has decided to axe flights to Milan, Rome and Rimini, all in Italy, throughout summer. Pisa is now the only Italian city served by Ryanair from Liverpool. Flights to Almeria, in Spain, were also axed and the frequency of flights on other routes pared back.
Passengers who had already booked seats on fights that have been cancelled are being offered the choice of a refund or a free switch to an alternative route. Ryanair will still operate 33 routes to and from Liverpool this summer, carrying more than 1.7m passengers this year.
