Work underway on new Manston Airport radar
18.05.11
Work is under way on a new multi-million pound radar system at Manston Airport to ensure offshore wind turbines are not mistaken for aircraft. It will help air traffic controllers at the airport deal with the radar ‘clutter’ caused by rotating wind turbines at offshore wind farms nearby.
Charles Buchanan, chief executive of the airport, said the new system ensured the continued safe operation of the airport. Manston's existing radar system will be replaced by the end of the year.
