25.01.07
Alpha Airports has won catering and retail contracts worth £150m at East Midlands and Bournemouth airports. This follows a £800m deal signed with Manchester Airport last September. All three airports are owned by Manchester Airports Group.
The company has signed a seven-year catering and retail contract at East Midlands Airport, valued at £130m over the term. The airport is undergoing an £8m refurbishment and Alpha has committed to spending £2m in developing and refitting existing units to include an extended duty free, a new newsagent, a bookshop and a refitted food hall. Changes are expected to be complete by April this year.
Alpha has also secured a seven-year contract to operate the duty free and newsagents at Bournemouth Airport. This is expected to generate £20m in additional sales over the term. As part of the deal, Alpha is investing £400,000 over the term of the contract and will, in 2010, be developing a new store within the terminal.
