Coventry Airport 'winning battle' with unruly passengers
28.09.07
Police officers based at Coventry Airport claim they are winning the battle against unruly and disruptive passengers. The news comes almost a year since officers launched a new protocol at the terminal aimed at identifying and dealing with antisocial behavior from travellers.
The scheme included training all staff at the airport - from those on the gates to check-in attendants - to spot potential disruptive individuals and to nip any bad behaviour in the bud. Staff remind passengers of the protocol's ultimate sanction - refusing to let them fly, with tickets being made void without a refund.
Sergeant Andrew Ware leads Warwickshire Police's presence at the airport. He said: 'The protocol has worked extremely well. I am sure that we are faced with matters that fall into this plan on a daily basis.'
'Over the past 12 months there have been seven incidents of note. That doesn't count for all the occasions that members of staff have had to talk to passengers who are disgruntled or who are mildly abusive.'
