Two jailed over Coventry Airport cocaine haul

Two men were jailed last week after trying to smuggle cocaine worth £100,000 into Coventry Airport hidden in a drum kit. The Class A drug destined for London. Two Colombian men who lived in the capital were traced, charged and sentenced to 5½ years in jail each on Friday after pleaded guilty to conspiring to supply a Class A drug at Southwark Crown Court. They also face deportation at the end of their prison terms.
Customs officers uncovered and seized the drugs at the Coventry International Postal Depot, the UK's largest parcel freight centre, which is based at Coventry Airport. The drugs had been sent in a parcel from Panama to a London address. It was hidden within seven black sticky strips concealed within the lining of a cardboard box containing a Maxstone Series 4 professional drum kit.
Customs officers worked closely with the Metropolitan Police to traced, arrested and charge Gabriel Alonso Montoya-Marin, aged 28, and Hector Dario Valencia Guarin, aged 51 with conspiracy to supply the drugs.
