Coventry Airport's owners have submitted plans for a 2,000-place passenger car park. The application for 2,060 spaces for cars of passengers using the temporary airport building has been submitted to planners at Warwick District Council. The new application is in addition to plans already submitted for more airport parking next to permanent passenger terminals, which are still awaiting a decision by councillors.
In a statement included in the application, bosses said the new parking facility would remove the requirement for passengers and airport workers to travel through Baginton village. Instead, they would be able to directly access parking from main roads.
Although the application was received on 13.05.05, it is unlikely to go for decision before the planning committee until later this year. Head of Planning at Warwick District Council, John Archer, said that this is because a full environmental impact assessment would have to be submitted, in addition to consultation with other interested bodies.
Councillor Bill Evans, chairman of Warwick District Council planning committee, said the success of this new planning application would probably hinge on the decision of the ongoing planning inquiry into the temporary terminal building.
'Without the temporary terminal building they won't have any need for parking. It is currently one of the issues in the whole inquiry. At the moment the area currently being used for parking is not an appropriate location,' he said.
