Football club park and ride for Coventry Airport
20.01.08
A new park-and-ride facility for Coventry City football club fans is to open later this month at Coventry Airport. It will replace one based at Jaguar's research and development site at Whitley, which will close as BT is to start work on developing the site.
The 1000 spaces will be in a car park at Coventry Airport in Siskin Drive and will be up and running for the FA Cup tie against Millwall next Saturday (January 26).
Charles Rayner, director of operations at the Ricoh Arena, said: 'There are 50 season ticket holders who currently use the Whitley site along with 200-300 other vehicles on match days and I hope they will now use the facility at Coventry Airport.'
Brian Kavanagh, managing director of Workforce Direct, which runs parking and security at Coventry Airport, hoped the switch would encourage more fans to use the park-and-ride scheme. He said: 'It is really good value for money and allows fans to travel to and from the Ricoh quickly and safely. We have plenty of space available and it will continue to open two hours before kick-off and one hour after the game.'
