Council approved Coventry airport parking and temporary terminal
05.07.05
As expected, Warwick District Council failed to listen to the pleas of protesters (see this earlier coventry airport news story) and approved plans for more airport parking, and even approved the temporary terminal at a meeting last night. This despite previously taking the airport to the High Court and serving notices to have the terminal demolished, which resulted in the current public enquiry.
At a meeting which lasted more than three-and-a-half hours, the planning committee of Warwick District Council approved a new 2,000-space airport car park at the existing temporary terminal at Coventry Airport. The council also approved proposals put forward by the airport's operators, TUI (thompsonfly.com), to reduce noise pollution, and approved plans for the current temporary terminal structure.
The decision does not mean planning permission for the temporary terminal has been granted as that will be decided by the government after the current public enquiry has been completed. A decision is not expected until the end of next year but, with the current government encouraging airport development, most expect permission to be granted.
