Thomsonfly ‘reviewing’ Coventry operation
03.10.08
Thomsonfly is ‘reviewing its operations’ at Coventry Airport following steep falls in passenger numbers, the Courier reports. The airline announced today that it is examining the future of its services from the airport in a bid to help it be more ‘efficient and flexible’ - and it is due to reach a verdict within a week. It is the only passenger airline at Coventry, following the departure of Wizz Air last month.
Passenger numbers have been dismal all year at the airport. Thomsonfly’s decision comes after a quiet summer at the terminal, which handled 25,000 fewer passengers in July than in the same month last year, a drop of 38%.
But Coventry Airport’s managing director Chris Orphanou is unconcerned. He told the newspaper: ‘Thomsonfly had a review last year and it resulted in us getting sleeker, faster aircraft. The industry is very depressed at the moment generally - I don’t think we’re doing any worse than comparable airports.’
