22 hour delay for Coventry Airport flight

Over 100 passengers waiting for a flight to Coventry Airport were marooned in Spain for 22 hours after their flight was cancelled. The passengers travelling to Coventry Airport were stuck at Alicante airport because of a problem with one of the wings on their Thomsonfly plane. Spare parts had to be flown from the UK before the jet was cleared for takeoff.
The flight took off on time at 21:00 on Sunday, but was forced to return to Alicante because of a problem with one of the wings. The 114 passengers then had to wait on the plane until 23:30, before returning to the terminal. They then waited in the terminal until 02:00 on Monday morning before being packed off to an airport hotel.
The passengers were then returned to the airport at 08:00 on Monday where they had to wait all day whilst the airline tried to repair the aircraft. The pilot then took the aircraft up for a test flight to make sure it was safe, before the nervous passengers were ushered on to the plane and it eventually took off for Coventry again at 19:00, 22 hours late.
A spokeswoman from Thomsonfly said it was a technical problem that caused the plane to be grounded for so long. She said: 'The main cause of the delay was that the spare parts and engineering assistance needed had to be flown out from the UK. Passengers did have to wait for a long time but they were given accommodation in a hotel, as well as breakfast and lunch,' which we're sure made them feel a whole lot better about wasting a day at a busy airport in the middle of summer!
