Assembly to look at ways to boost the airport
31.12.11
Ways to improve the contribution of Cardiff Airport to the economy are being examined as part of an inquiry by Welsh Assembly Members. The enterprise and business committee will look at how the Welsh government can help develop its potential, after the airport saw a 10% decline in passengers in 2010.
The inquiry will look at the importance of the airport to the economy of its local region and to Wales as a whole. They will also look at the factors that have contributed to the decline in business through the airport, which has lost more passengers over the past three years than any of the other major regional airports in the UK.
Steve Hodgetts, Cardiff Airport's planning and commercial director, said: ‘We welcome the high profile of Cardiff Airport in government and the realisation of its links to the economic wellbeing of Wales. The inquiry provides an opportunity to improve the understanding of how the Government's support for air transport and connectivity can assist in aiding economic recovery.’
