Cardiff Airport wants to replace Zoom flights
30.08.08
Managers at Cardiff Airport say they will be looking to replace flights to North America after Zoom stopped flying this week. Zoom had operated once weekly flights to Vancouver and twice weekly flights to Toronto from Cardiff. A spokesman for the airport said the problems experienced by Zoom were entirely due to the rise in aviation fuel and were not as a result of any weakness in the market from Cardiff.
Steve Hodgetts, the airport’s commercial and business director, said the airport was determined to find a replacement service. He said: ‘The flights had been very successful, They were an excellent partner. It is a successful route, we don't want to lose it. The priority is to get a replacement for Toronto.’
‘We realise we are probably going to have some issues as there aren’t too many airlines that fly transatlantic routes. This is a tough time for airlines but this is a strong opportunity. There are two or three airlines that fly to Canada who we will be speaking to and there is a worldwide routes conference where we will be pitching Cardiff as an opportunity.’
