Cardiff Airport launch 'fly direct' campaign
30.01.08
Cardiff Airport has launched a campaign to secure new international routes for the Welsh business community. The airport has teamed up with twelve organisations including the CBI, the Institute of Directors, Business In Focus, Swansea Futures, West Wales Chamber NGb2b and International Business Wales to conduct research into the destination needs of business.
Currently many Welsh business travellers must go to Heathrow, Birmingham, Manchester or other airports in England for direct flights to destinations overseas. Airport officials have now launched a 'You Would If You Could' campaign and say the results will be used to make the case for new routes with some of the world’s biggest airlines.
The campaign asks business travellers to identify themselves and answer a short survey about their air travel habits. The resulting information will be presented to airline decision-makers at a special route-planning conference in Porto, Portugal, in May.
It is hoped the results of the campaign will persuade airlines to add much-needed routes from Cardiff, such as the financial centres of Germany at Frankfurt and Dusseldorf as well as cities in the UK to where there are currently no connections.
