Cardiff Airport road plans ‘put on back burner’
27.12.08
Oppenents of plans to build an access road to Cardiff Airport have welcomed news that it has been given a low priority by the Welsh Assembly Government, the South Wales Echo reports. Transport Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones is due to announce the Assembly’s preferred new route to the airport early next year, although it is understood a decision could now be delayed.
The road scheme has failed to make the Assembly’s ‘Top 10’ priority list of road investments, and was actually placed at number 19, while half-hourly trains for airport passengers are 24th in a list of 24 rail priorities.
Keith Stockdale, spokesman for Barry and Vale Friends of the Earth, told the newspaper: ‘The minister shows he has listened to the well argued criticism from the No Ely Valley Airport Road action group, pointing out serious deficiencies in the options study and in consulting the public.'
