BA cuts jobs at engineering plant
23.07.09
British Airways is to make 32 redundancies at an engineering plant in Wales. A 30-day consultation period has begun at Avionics Engineering in Pontyclun, Rhondda Cynon Taf.
BA said the most difficult trading conditions the industry had ever known meant it was looking to identify cost savings. The airline is currently in talks with its main unions over pay, working practices and 3700 job cuts across its 40,000 staff. It has reduced capacity and grounded aircraft which had led to a reduced workload at the south Wales plant.
A spokesman for BA said: ‘We remain committed to providing good quality, skilled jobs in Wales, and employ more than 1,000 people at our three Welsh facilities.’ The airline has two other engineering facilities in south Wales: British Airways Maintenance Cardiff (BAMC) at Cardiff International Airport, in Blackwood, Caerphilly county.
