Zoom in talks with Cardiff Airport about New York flights

Long haul budget airline Zoom Airlines is in talks about launching flights from Cardiff Airport to New York. A spokesman for the airport confirmed that it was talking to the airline after Zoom launched began daily flights between Gatwick and New York's John F Kennedy International Airport earlier this week.
Zoom, which already flies from Cardiff Airport to Toronto and Vancouver, is offering one-way fares of £129 on its 266-seat Boeing 767-300s on the new Gatwick - NYC route. Slightly larger 'premium economy' seats can be booked for an additional £99 each way.
Launching the new route, the airline's chairman Hugh Boyle confirmed the privately-owned airline was looking at other busy domestic routes and may add new flights early next year. A Cardiff - New York service has long been a top target for airport officials. The nearest alternative service for South Wales trippers wanting to go to New York is a Continental Airlines flight from Bristol.
A Cardiff Airport spokesman said: 'We are talking with Zoom, but the Welsh public can help us prove to Zoom there will be a market from the South Wales area. No detailed information is available about the numbers who fly to New York from South Wales and, therefore, we would appeal to travellers, particularly business people, to let us know through our website www.cwlfly.com. That information could then be used to secure a regular service to New York, which is what we all want.'
