Welsh First Minister attacks Cardiff Airport owners again
21.03.12
Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones has launched another stinging attack on Cardiff Airport - saying its owners were not running the facility properly, PA reports. Last week, Mr Jones told Assembly Members he would not want people to come to Wales via the airport because it may give a bad impression of the country.
Yesterday he faced criticism from Welsh Conservatives leader Andrew Davies for the comments - saying it hindered the positive message that Wales was trying to send out to the world. But Mr Jones refused to back down, saying the situation at the airport could not continue.
He said: ‘I am surprised the leader of the opposition is picking a fight on this. He must be the only person in Wales who thinks Cardiff Airport is doing well. The situation cannot continue. It is not doing well. The present owners are not running it on the model that it should be. There is a great potential with the right owners, who demonstrate the right level of commitment.’
