Cardiff Airport terminal expansion plans approved
08.03.10
A multi-million-pound extension to the terminal at Cardiff Airport has been approved by councillors. Work on the project to improve the appearance of the airport will begin later this year with approval of the plans by Vale of Glamorgan councillors coming as plans for a dedicated bus service to the airport were also announced.
The £5m terminal improvement scheme will see the arrivals and departures halls linked into one large area, with new food and retail premises, and the building will get a 'fresh contemporary design' upgrade. The first floor of the terminal will become ‘airside’ as the security control point to access the departures lounge is relocated to the first floor. The approach area in front of the terminal building will also be redesigned.
Meanwhile, Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones has approved the specification for a dedicated airport express bus service. The new limited-stop service will operate between Cardiff Airport and the city centre.
