New Cardiff - Newquay flights take off

A new air link between Wales and Cornwall takes off today, almost a year after a previous service was abolished, when SkyBus launches its once-daily service between Cardiff Airport and Newquay, despite a previous service being axed due to poor customer demand.
The service will operate Monday to Friday and will offer seats for a maximum of 16 passengers. Fares are from £70 for the return trip and executives at the airline say the 40-minute journey will provide a ‘reliable and quick’ alternative to the four-hour car journey between Wales and Cornwall, which is as a slow and difficult trip.
Last April, Air Southwest announced it would abolish its route between Cardiff and Newquay because custom had not reached expected levels. But Jeff Marston, chief executive of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company which operates Skybus, said reopening the service provided the ideal development opportunity.
He said, ‘We know the route has been really popular in the past with another airline operating the route during 2005 through to 2007. We are delighted to reinstate the flights and offer a convenient, reliable and quick service for the people of Wales and Cornwall.’
