A drunken rugby fan was arrested at Cardiff Airport yesterday after abusing staff while trying to board a flight to Edinburgh.
Police were called after boarding gate staff complained about a 63-year-old man booked on the Monarch Airlines MON9238 charter flight to Edinburgh, shortly before 13:00 yesterday. The man, who celebrates his 64th birthday today, was stopped from boarding the supporters' plane and arrested by South Wales Police.
A Monarch Airlines spokeswoman said: 'A passenger who was booked to travel on a rugby charter flight between Cardiff and Edinburgh was refused travel. The passenger, who was believed to be intoxicated, became abusive to staff at the boarding gate and was not permitted to board the aircraft. Police were subsequently called and the passenger was arrested.'
The Monarch plane was one of many leaving Cardiff Airport for Edinburgh which were delayed due to the snow and icy weather yesterday. The runway was closed for two hours as thousands of Wales fans flocked to the Scottish capital for the Six Nations match with Scotland today.
