Cardiff Airport enjoys passenger boost
08.01.07
Cardiff Airport has taken thousands of extra passengers over the weekend after disruption forced the closure of Bristol airport. Many of the flights due to operate from Bristol - including 60% of easyJet's services - were transferred to Cardiff. A spokesman for Cardiff airport said that it had three times the usual number of passengers using the airport yesterday - around 10,000 compared to a more usual 3,500.
Bristol Airport has said it hopes to reopen its runway this morning after closing it overnight for emergency work, however many of the airlines who have moved their flights to Cardiff have said that they will not transfer them back today, giving another welcome passenger boost to Cardiff. The airport announced last week a record 2 million passengers in 2006.
