Cardiff Airport has announced its new managing director will be Patrick Duffy. Mr Duffy, 36, has a leadership and business development background in commercial operations, including in retail, and visitor-and-tourism destinations, both in the UK and Ireland.
A resident in the Vale of Glamorgan for more than five years, he has recently been undertaking an MBA at Cardiff University’s Business School following his role as director of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s sales division.
Mr Duffy said: 'I am thrilled to be appointed by TBI-abertis airports as managing director at Cardiff International Airport. I believe there are tremendous long-term prospects for Wales’ national airport, and look forward to working with the team, with our colleagues in TBI-abertis, and with all those in business and public life who can share in the benefits of a strong international airport.'
Mr Duffy, who was born in Ireland, is married to Bridgend-born Rhian. They have two children.
Carlos del Rio, Chief Executive of TBI-abertis airports, said: 'The company's investment in Cardiff Airport has facilitated strong growth in traffic, with a record 2.1 million passengers using the hub in 2007. Patrick will take the airport forward in a rapidly changing marketplace, with the objective of meeting the travelling needs and aspirations of Wales and the West.'
