Public invited to meeting on Cardiff Airport radar
04.02.10
Cardiff Airport has invited members of the public to the next Airport Consultative Committee meeting to discuss any issues or concerns regarding its project to erect a new Air Traffic Control radar tower.
The airport has been working on the project for the past 18 months. The new radar will be erected on the south side of the airfield adjacent to the fire training ground. It is being repositioned in order to comply more fully with the Civil Aviation Authority requirements, with the location selected to improve radar coverage for aircraft safety.
Ground level works have been underway for several weeks, and a crane was on site last week to erect the 20 metre tower. The next step is to add the radar head on top of the tower, which will happen over the next few weeks. The new system will be turning from May / June for testing, with the project expected to be completed by July, when the new radar will be fully operational.
The meeting will be at the airport on Monday, February 15, at 18:00. For more information visit www.tbicardiffairport.com.
