New parking charge at Cardiff Airport

Passengers using Cardiff Airport will no longer be able to use the short-stay car park as a pick-up point for free, the Echo reports. However, the airport defended the move, saying that the revised charging structure offers better value for money.

Tightened security laws introduced after the terror attack at Glasgow Airport last year mean cars are no longer allowed to wait directly in front of the airport because of the threat of terrorist attacks. However, the closest car park to the airport was free for stays of up to 20 minutes. But the airport has now introduced a minimum fee of £1 no matter how short the stay.
A spokeswoman for the airport told the newspaper: ‘Cardiff Airport reacted to the customer comments we have received that 20 minutes to pick up was not long enough, and that passengers would prefer to pay a minimal fee to stay for longer. We have researched the market and believe we are providing good value for money in charging £1 for one hour.'
‘Under the previous scheme drivers picking up passengers had to pay £2.40 if they stayed in the short-stay car park for over 20 minutes, and by introducing these measures we’re reacting to consumer demands.’
