Passengers hit with 24 hour delay to Cardiff Airport flight
02.08.07
Furious passengers caused a near-riot at Cardiff Airport yesterday after their Turkey-bound flight was delayed twice in 24 hours. Passengers were told 'technical difficulties' caused the lengthy delay to the flight. Press reports say that some of the irate customers were shouting at staff and things got so heated that police were stationed next to the customer service desk.
The passengers were scheduled to travel at 10:00 on Tuesday with Onur Air to Dalaman, but instead spent 12 hours at the airport before being sent to an airport hotel for the night. The 220 passengers were then told their flight, OHY2764, would take off at 09:00 yesterday and were taken back to the airport by coach - only to be told it was delayed again.
The plane eventually took off at around 11:00 yesterday, with the passengers arriving in Turkey at 16:00 local time. Press reports suggest that representatives from holiday operator Holidays4U handed out letters in Turkey offering the passengers just £10 each in compensation. Nobody from the airline or holiday company was available for comment.
