Low-cost airline bmibaby is planning to fly to new European destinations from Cardiff Airport as it celebrates 5 years of operations their. Managing director Crawford Rix told the Western Mail newspaper that the airline plans to expand its Cardiff operations after recently focusing on new services from Birmingham.
The airline flies to 13 destinations in Europe and the UK from Cardiff Airport, including Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Prague and Geneva. Celebrating the company's five years in Cardiff, Mr Rix said: 'We have had a pause in our operations at Cardiff because there was an opportunity for us to fill at Birmingham. But we have dealt with that now and we are looking to expand the rest of our business. It would be wrong of me to say where or when we are looking to expand to but we want to continue our expansion.'
'There is the right skills base in South Wales for us to expand. What we would want to do is to take Cardiff to a level that is fitting for a European capital city.' Among the destinations the company has added from Birmingham are Rome and Marseilles - and similar routes could be on their way to Cardiff, the newspaper suggests.
