Swarm of bees grounds plane at Bournemouth Airport

Almost 100 passengers found themselves stranded at Bournemouth Airport for 11 hours after one of the engines on their plane was damaged by a swarm of bees. It is believed the plane's engine ingested the bees while flying over Bournemouth, but this did not cause problems until later into the flight.
The Palmair Boeing 737, bound for Faro in Portugal, took off from Bournemouth at 08:10 on Thursday. But after flying into a swarm of bees, the plane experienced an engine surge. An hour later the pilot returned to the UK for the engine to be checked.
Engineers inspected the plane and advised that it was unsafe to fly. Another plane took the passengers to Faro, only leaving at 19:15 after an 11 hour delay.
A total of 196 passengers were affected by the problem, including 90 on the outbound flight to the Algarve and a further 106 waiting in Faro to return to the UK. The passengers from Faro arrived back in Bournemouth at 01:20.
