Two die in plane crash at Bournemouth airport

Two people were killed last night when a plane crashed and burst into flames close to the runway at Bournemouth Airport. The accident happened at about 19:30.

The two-seater light aircraft was trying to land at Bournemouth Airport when it is believed the pilot lost control. The plne burst into a fireball as it crashed on grassland a short distance from the main runway. Emergency crews raced to the scene but the two people on board were already dead.

A Dorset Police spokesman said no buildings or any other people were involved in the incident. Bournemouth Airport, which is one of the fastest growing airports in the UK, remained open while the crash is dealt with. The Air Accident Investigation Branch has been notified.
