Plane fire closes Bournemouth Airport runway
21.09.09
The runway at Bournemouth Airport had to be closed briefly yesterday after a fire broke out in the engine of a light aircraft. The Piper Cherokee single-engine aircraft, with three people onboard, was due to take off when the incident happened at about 17:30.
The three people were removed from the plane. Nobody was hurt and the airport's own fire service put out the fire, an airport spokesman said. Dorset fire service also attended. The runway was shut for 10 minutes, but no commercial flights were affected.
