Bournemouth Airport business park plans approved

Pans for a multi-million pound development at Bournemouth Airport’s business parks that could create 1200 jobs have been approved. Councillors at Christchurch Borough Council unanimously approved the outline application from Manchester Airport Group Developments late last week. The plans for more than 35 acres of the 200 acre site include five areas of land comprising of office space, warehousing, industrial premises and hangar space.
Concerns over the impact of extra traffic on the busy roads around the airport resulted in eleventh hour negotiations over the amount of money required to improve the infrastructure. However officers from Dorset County Council and MAG eventually agreed the airport group would pay £1.1 million towards improving the road from Blackwater to Parley Cross. MAG will also pay £20,000 towards the improvement of the Chapel Lane cycle link.
Currently at the airport there are more than 180 companies providing 2,500 jobs across a range of industries, many aviation and aerospace related. The Aviation Business Park has maintained a high level of resilience through the economic downturn, with occupancy levels now at almost over 96 percent.
