Ryanair to open new base at Bournemouth Airport
09.01.08
Ryanair announced today that it will launch five new routes from Bournemouth Airport in April and base one aircraft there, making the airport its 24th European base.
The $70m Boeing 737-800 aircraft will serve routes to Malaga, Murcia, Nantes, Palma and Wroclaw. Ryanair already operates seven routes from the airport to Alicante, Barcelona, Dublin, Glasgow, Marseille, Milan and Pisa.
The budget airline said in a statement: 'This investment will deliver one million passengers per annum for the South Coast resulting in a visitor spend of £60m. It will also sustain 1000 jobs in the local economy.' It also took a few pot shots at rival Flybe, which operates from near neighbour Southampton Airport.
