Bournemouth Airport arrivals upgrade plans approved

New plans to turn the out-of-date arrivals hall at Bournemouth Airport into a modern, welcoming area for returning holidaymakers and visitors were approved, the Echo reports. The newly revised plans for the low-carbon structure will turn the present arrivals hall into one of the most innovative airport buildings in the UK. Councillors at Christchurch Borough Council gave the go-ahead to the revised proposals and praised the hub for the extensive work already completed as a part of a £45m revamp of the airport.
John Twigg, group planning director at Manchester Airport Group, told the newspaper: ‘There will be nothing like this terminal in the UK. It truly is innovative and part of the reason we have changed the plans. The flat roof appearance of the building makes it possible for for north-facing roof lights while an efficient heating system, lighting and thermal mass are also included to help the structure obtain its low carbon claim.'
'This design of the new arrivals building will be an innovative structure with 70% less CO2 emissions than the earlier design. It is, we believe, the first airport structure of its type in the UK and will present a fitting welcome to visitors to the region. A covered walkway will link the brand new departures and arrivals hall with plans to begin on the work within the next few weeks.'
