Old Bournemouth Airport terminal to be demolished
03.09.11
The former arrivals building at Bournemouth Airport is set to be demolished after a planning application to Christchurch Borough Council was lodged for approval to tear down the now unused building. Following a £45 million transformation of the airport departure and arrivals facilities, the owners of Bournemouth Airport, Manchester Airport Group want to remove the last reminder of the shabby sheds that used to operate as its terminal.
The new arrivals facility opened in May, completing the final step of the multi-million pound re-development of the airport. It is a far cry from the old building, which currently still stands between departures and the new arrival terminal. A covered walkway will link the two new terminals, once the former arrival terminal has been removed.
An airport spokesperson said: 'The unsightly structures which formerly served as the arrivals facilities are now completely vacant and have no future purpose now. By comparison to their replacement they stand out as a bit of an eyesore. The removal of the defunct buildings will also enable us to complete the full airside link between the two main new terminal buildings.’
