Gatwick Airport has had two terminals - the north terminal and the south terminal - but only has one runway. It is the busiest single runway airport in the world, the second busiest airport in the UK (after heathrow), and in the top 10 busiest airports in Europe.
Once best known as the airport for holidays and charter flights, in recent years gatwick airport has established itself as a major international hub for scheduled services, which now account for over a quarter of the passengers who pass through this airport. Today over 80 different airlines fly in to and from Gatwick airport, serving more than 200 destinations around the world and carrying over 34.2 million passengers in 2008.
