Ryanair cut 40 telephone jobs
28.03.08
Ryanair is to close its Dublin telephone sales centre, affecting up to 40 jobs, because of falling levels of telephone bookings and to help offset high fuel costs. The airline will still maintain its cheaper call centres in Romania and Germany because they can provide telesales services at 60% lower costs.
A spokesman said: ‘Sadly, the operation is no longer viable or cost competitive against a backdrop of dwindling demand for phone bookings (now less than 1% of sales).' Chief Executive Michael O'Leary added: ‘These kind of cost savings must be made if Ryanair is to remain Europe's lowest cost airline in these difficult recessionary markets.’
