German minister wants charity donation for Ryanair ad

German Finance Minister Peer Steinbrueck has asked Ryanair to donate €25,000 (£20,000) to a secret police memorial after the Irish low-cost airline used his image in advertising. The airline has confirmed that it will make the donation.
Ryanair depicted the Social Democrat minister, an ardent supporter of financial rigour, with a conversation bubble which read: ‘Fly for €10 with Ryanair.’ The donation is to be given to a museum and memorial created in Berlin on the site of a former prison run by the east German secret police force Stasi, the German daily Bild said.
The budget airline recently lost a lawsuit brought by French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his new wife Carla after the airline used a picture of their marriage in another ad campaign. The French first lady donated the €60,000 in damages to a French soup kitchen, while the president received the token €1 he had sued the airline for, but matched his wife's donation from his own pocket.
