Ryanair may raise 2010 passenger forecast

Ryanair may increase projections for passenger numbers and is sticking to plans to add 200 aircraft as the recession prompts a shift to budget travel. The budget airline previously predicted it would serve 67 million passengers in the 12 months to March 2010, a 16 percent increase from the current year, and ‘if anything, we’ll be revising our numbers up,’ Chief Executive Officer Michael O’Leary said in an interview with Bloomberg News today.
Ryanair raised its full-year profit forecast on February 2, saying the falling price of oil has more than compensated for lower fares it is offering to fill its seats. Net income in the year to March 2009, excluding one-time gains or costs, will total €50 to €80 million, the Dublin-based airline said.
The airline will not revise its passenger forecasts before it announces full-year earnings in June. However, Mr O'Leary said: ‘I think our growth will be even stronger this year. People are increasingly making their travel decisions on price. We’re seeing a dramatic switch in passengers across from high-fare, fuel-surcharging airlines.’
