Stansted runway application ‘ignores environment’
25.03.08
BAA’s planning application for a second runway at Stansted Airport shows that they are ignoring the environmental issues of expanding, according to activist group Plane Stupid. It says that the application shows that BAA is not prepared to tackle climate change issues in the industry.
Patrick Gillett, a spokesman for Plane Stupid, said: 'It is growth at a cost to all of us and a benefit to BAA’s bank balance. It flies in the face of any green or environmental concerns that they would claim to have.' A press release from the direct action group added that 'no-one in their right minds' would see Stansted’s expansion as compatible with climate change.
