Stansted food and drink outlets busiest in UK

Food and drink outlets JD Wetherspoon and Pret a Manger are proving more successful at Stansted Airport than any other in the UK and Europe. And Burger King’s new arrivals restaurant is its busiest airport outlet in the UK.
Pret a Manger, which opened at Stansted in 2003 and which occupies a key location, landside in the terminal, regularly outsells all of its other stores, making it the number one Pret in Europe. Top seller is the tuna and cucumber baguette, with over 90,000 sold each year, along with 650,000 hot drinks.
J D Wetherspoon opened The Windmill pub, airside at Stansted in 2003 and constantly outperforms the company’s other 733 pubs across the UK, but it is not just alcohol that leads to the record sales. Last month, Stansted food sales were the highest of any of its airport pubs.
And since opening up in the new terminal arrivals area in November 2008, Burger King has rocketed into the company’s record books, serving 13,000 customers a week. This is more than any of its other airport outlets.
John English, Stansted’s Head of Retail, said: ‘Passengers recognise and trust these brands, so it’s no surprise that they flock to use them in the airport. We are pleased that the companies are doing so well at Stansted and look forward to welcoming other famous brands to the airport.’
