South African airline plans Stansted – Cape Town flights

South African aviation company Civair is reviving plans to launch Cape Town - Stansted Airport flights, the Business Day reports. The airline's CEO, Andy Cluver, told the newspaper that he believes Civair will get all regulatory approvals to begin three flights a week between Cape Town and Stansted, with a stop in Barcelona towards year's end.
In 2004, Civair planned to launch three direct flights a week between Cape Town and Stansted using a Boeing 747-200, but the route never got off the ground. If the airline gets airborne this time, not only will it be the first South African flight from Stansted, it will also be the first direct flight between Spain and South Africa.
Mr Cluver said that the company has an option to add a further two direct flights a week to Stansted at a later stage. He said: ‘We elected to fly to Stansted as it a modern, very efficient airport but still close to the centre of London. Whether we add the two extra flights will very much depend on demand.'
Civair has secured a Boeing 767-300ER on lease for use on the route. The airline aims to be SA's first truly no-frills international carrier, enabling passengers to manage the cost of their tickets. ‘Passengers will pay for a basic seat with the option to add extras such as meals, extra leg room or audio headset.’
