BAA ask for Stansted runway inquiry delay

UK airports operator BAA has written to communities minister Hazel Blears, asking for a delay to the public inquiry into a second runway at Stansted Airport, New Civil Engineer reports. The request comes after BAA’s decision announced this week to appeal the Competition Commission’s ruling that it must sell both Gatwick and Stansted airports, in addition to either Edinburgh or Glasgow airport.
The inquiry had already been put back once, but was likely to start in September. This timing meant that it was unlikely to be concluded and a decision made before the next general election, with the Conservatives stating that they will block the new runway if they win power.
