Virgin planes divert to Stansted
18.05.10
Virgin Atlantic was forced to divert three planes to Stansted Airport yesterday after volcanic ash caused UK airports including Heathrow and Gatwick to close. Two Gatwick-bound Boeing 747's, one from Orlando and another from Barbados, were diverted along with a Heathrow bound Airbus A340 from Hong Kong.
Although all UK airports are open today, there are expected to be some knock on effects of yesterday's closures, which could cause delays and cancellations. In addition a number of European airports are affected by ash today, which could also affect UK inbound and outbound flights. Passengers are advised to check with their airline before setting off for the airport..
