75,000 take AirAsia budget flights from Stansted

AirAsia, one of the few no-frills, long-haul airlines, has defied the gloom in the aviation industry. It is expected to report soaring passenger numbers for the first six months of its operation from Stansted to the Far East and Asia.
About 75,000 passengers, many of them backpackers, are reported to have bought tickets typically costing about £350 return to its hub in Kuala Lumpur. From there they can take onward flights to countries in the Far East and even on to Australia.
