Stansted Airport launch noise consultation
13.06.09
Stansted Airport has launched a 16-week public consultation to find out how to limit its aircraft noise. EU and UK regulations stipulate that the airport must publish a noise action plan. The consultation is part of the airport's plans to attempt to minimise the amount of noise it creates over the next 5 years.
Stewart Wingate, managing director at the airport, said they wanted to know what the public think of their plans before they submit them to the Government. He said: ‘Our challenge is to manage the issue of aircraft noise in a pro-active, professional and yet sensitive way as we understand it can be a real concern for our local community.'
Dr Andy Jefferson, head of environment at Stansted Airport, said that planes are 75 percent quieter now than 30 years ago and there were plans to further reduce their noise by another 50 percent.
