Stansted Airport looking for disability support firm
13.05.07
In preparation of new legislation governing disability support in airports set to come in next year, Stansted Airport is looking for a partner to help improve its own services. The news comes just days after rival Manchester Airport announced that it was already complying with the new rules.
Robbie Barrigan, a spokesperson for Stansted, said that the airport was currently involved in the tendering process and would make its decision in November to recruit a partner to help it ensure it complies with the new regulations.
He said: 'The main change with this new legislation is in how disabled passengers and passengers with special needs are handled when they arrive at the airport to when they get on the plane. The legislation will help to further improve 'an already good' service provided at Stansted Airport, he added.
Stansted is the UK's third-busiest airport, offering services to 160 destinations in 34 countries. According to figures released last week, just under 23.8 million passengers used the airport in the last 12 months, making it the 49th-busiest airport in the world.
