Rob Stewart, Construction Director, BAA Capital Projects, is to discuss the future of the UK’s airport development at the New Civil Engineer (NCE) conference on Engineering Modern Airports in London this May.
From huge projects such as Heathrow Terminal 6 and the £2.5bn second runway at Stansted Airport to development at regional airports such as Exeter and Carlisle, airports all over the UK are planning expansion to meet the increased demand for travel.
In response to this unprecedented development NCE has organised an Engineering Modern Airports conference, which will 'explore development opportunities, future projects and the engineering principles behind 21st century airports'.
Rob Stewart, Construction Director, BAA Capital projects will open the event, assessing the growth of UK airports and where future opportunities lie. Daniel Storey, Head of Airports Price Control at the CAA will evaluate air travel trends and the impact it will have on UK development, and Mark Adams OBE, Managing Director, Foresight Consulting will review the development of Heathrow Terminal 6.
The key issue of reducing the carbon footprint and moving towards sustainable airports will be discussed with industry experts including Laurie Price, Director of Aviation at Mott MacDonald, Charles Secrett, Board Member of the London Development Agency and Graeme Power-Hosking, Director of Aviation at Capita Symonds. John Twigg, Head of Planning at Manchester Airports Group will round off this area by discussing working with local communities to build better relationships.
On the technical side, Nigel Ostime, Director of 3D Reid will examine the design of the Glasgow Skyhub. John Oakshott, Director of Aviation at Parsons Brinckerhoff will evaluate methods for maximising current capacity and overcoming environmental constraints, while Jonathan Green, Operational Director at RPS Group will assess the key requirements for developing sustainable drainage systems.
A spokesman for the conference organisers said: 'NCE’s Engineering Modern Airports promises to enlighten all stakeholders in the aviation industry, providing the commercial outlook and technical developments driving the sector forward.'
The conference will be held in London on Thursday May 21. For more information or to book visit www.nceairports.co.uk or call 0845 056 8069.
