Huge new BA cargo planes set for Stansted
12.08.10
BA has picked Stansted Airport as the base for three of the biggest Boeing commercial jets. Stansted received Code F status – permitting aircraft with an 80-metre wingspan – last month, allowing it to handle Boeing’s new generation 747-8 aircraft. Now BA World Cargo has announced three of its new fleet of the giant planes will be based at Stansted from early next year.
The planes, the biggest in the 747 range, will fly to destinations including Hong Kong, Atlanta, Houston and Shanghai from Stansted. Nick Barton, commercial a director at the airport, said: 'We are delighted with this announcement, which is already sparking interest from other airlines.’
