Capacity cuts hit Stansted passengers

The rate of decline in passenger numbers at Stansted Airport increased again in August. A total of 2.23 million passengers used the airport during the month, 7.8% down on the same month last year and worse that the 5.7% passenger decline in July.
Airport owner BAA said August's fall was largely due to reductions in capacity among its main low-cost carriers. Stansted's rolling 12 month passenger total is down 11% down at 20.47 million while the figure for the 2009 year to date is 12.1% down on the same time last year.
